How Dunne’s McLaren outing shows Red Bull that changing drivers isn’t the solution

Yuki Tsunoda has participated in nine Grand Prix races with Red Bull since taking over Liam Lawson’s Formula 1 seat at the Japanese Grand Prix.

However, Tsunoda’s impact has been minimal, scoring only seven points compared to his teammate Max Verstappen’s 119 points. His recent qualifying performances have also not been impressive, with starts from grid positions of 20th, 12th, 19th, and two times from 18th.

The structural issues within Red Bull’s team have been highlighted, as previous drivers like Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson also struggled to perform. Helmut Marko has emphasized that Tsunoda will complete the season with Red Bull.

While Tsunoda’s results may not be crucial for now, avoiding costly crashes is important due to the current cost cap regulations. Despite the challenges, Red Bull seems destined for a 4th place finish in the constructors’ championship.

There are no immediate replacements for Tsunoda within the Red Bull development program, and the team is focused on supporting him and rebuilding his confidence for future races. This shift towards a more supportive approach marks a change in Red Bull’s management strategies.
